Several excel files with the results can be downloaded here: Minutes from the delegates meeting can be found here. Wrap-Up of 42nd Annual WMTS Meeting, Cervia Milano Marrittima, Italy, 22-29 September, 2012. The meeting is over, and now we are home, glad to have been there, and knowing it was one of the all-time best meetings in our long history of WMTS. The organizers deserve applause for all of their work. They are proud that they did not require a Convention Agency to stage the meeting; they did it themselves! They found sponsors, raised funds, arranged courts, hotels, special events, and scientific lectures. Never have I seen, in many years' attendance, a welcome bag so full of treats, topped off by not one, but two!, bottles of excellent Italian wine. Thus my wife and I started off the week with 4 bottles! Not bad. We easily managed to consume them before the week was over. All succeeding host countries will be envious when they note how many sponsors Italian doctors were able to sign up to help with expenses. The names of the organizers are Vincenzo and Roberta Sciacca, Bartolo and Luisella Bresciano, Claudio and Sandra Maffi, Paolo and Loredana Frugoni, Franco Reali, Gianbattista and Maurilia Brizzi, Antonio Ajuti, Antonioi Cellini, Robert Natali, Luca Sartori, and Anselmo Terenzio. The referees were Pino Guastavino, Ivana and Pierluigi Bossini, Enzo Giovannetti, Daniele Mingozzi, and Giuseppe Martelli. These people were introduced on the first evening to the many registrants. It had been 12 years since WMTS was held in Cervia, and it was good to be back. The weather was perfect except for one early evening shower. The clay courts were groomed perfectly. The scenery was beautiful with the Adriatic Sea in the background. Dr. Sciacca, President of AMTI, read some interesting statistics at the Presidents' Meeting: There were 460 participants, 280 doctors and 180 guests. (Would that have been 880 bottles of wine?) 27 Nations were represented. (Flags of the nations were displayed prominently, a very nice touch.) 2,000 liters of water were distributed. 740 matches were played. 16 countries participated in Men's Nations' Cup, and 8 in Women's Nations' Cup. Italy won Men's and Germany won Women's. A lot of spectators enjoyed the Nations' Cup matches. President Egils Valeinis introduced a seeding system that he has worked on for some years. This will be used in succeeding meetings. The upcoming meetings were confirmed: There were 33 draws, a large tournament. Congratulations to all the new World Champions!! Respectfully submitted. |

Excerpts from Dr. Stanley McCampbell's, "My Memoirs of The World Medical Tennis Society," written in 1991. "To me it has been a great honor to know and enjoy the friendship of doctors from around the world. It has been the most exciting experience of my life. Doctors... can be assured that if they travel thousands of miles to meetings, they will be certain of a warm welcome, well-organized tournaments and scientific sessions, and a grand, good time. It is an opportunity, unequalled, as far as I know, of enjoying the friendship of interesting, fun loving, sportsman-like doctors who will be friends for life. I would certainly like to do it all over again." |
